WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and 35 Senate Democrats submitted a comment to Secretary DeVos urging her to rescind her proposed Title IX rule, listen to students and survivors of sexual assault, and draft a rule that truly addresses the epidemic of sexual assault in our K-12 schools and colleges and universities. Rosen has previously expressed opposition to the Department of Education’s proposal to weaken Title IX protections for sexual assault survivors.
“The proposed rule is a significant step back from prior Administrations’ issued guidance and regulations and would allow schools to violate Congressional intent behind Title IX to ensure educational equity for all students, regardless of sex,” wrote the Members. “We urge you to listen to students, schools, and survivors across this country, abandon this harmful proposal, and start over in order to draft a rule that truly addresses the scourge of sexual assault in our classrooms, on our campuses, and wherever our students live and learn consistent with the requirements in Title IX.”
