WINNEMUCCA, NV –Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) toured the Winnemucca Grammar School, which has been in service since 1927. During her tour, Rosen discussed her bipartisan, bicameral STEM education legislation she introduced earlier in the month.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to tour one of our state’s historic schools, named after a true trailblazing Nevada woman,” said Senator Rosen. “Just as Nevada’s forefathers worked to improve our state’s education with the building of this school, I am working in Congress to improve education for Nevada’s children through legislation, such as my Building Blocks of STEM Act. My legislation would make investments in early childhood STEM education, providing our children with opportunities to explore STEM-related fields at an early age. I will continue to work on ways to prepare our children for the careers of the future.”
BACKGROUND: The Winnemucca Grammar School was built in 1927 by Richard Watkins. It was registered in the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
Earlier this month, Senator Rosen introduced the bipartisan Building Blocks of STEM Act which would create and expand upon STEM education initiatives at the National Science Foundation (NSF) for young children, including new research grants to increase the participation of girls in computer science.
