WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) released the following statement applauding a grant from the Department of Energy (DOE) to the University of Nevada, Reno, to be used for research into innovative advanced manufacturing development.
“With advanced manufacturing jobs on the rise in our state and around the country, it is critical that Nevada help lead the way into new cutting edge technologies and methods of manufacturing,” said the Senators. “This grant will help to fund research into innovative and effective ways to strengthen America’s manufacturing capabilities. We will continue to support legislation and programs that strengthen American manufacturers.”
BACKGROUND: The University of Nevada, Reno was awarded $500,000 from the Department of Energy for a project entitled “The Grain Boundary Relaxation (GBR) Approach for Manufacturing of High Strength Nanocrystalline (NC) Lightweight Metals.” Manufacturing NC metals will be increasingly important for critical lightweight structural components. At present, although methods are available to manufacture NC metals, these methods are limited by the inefficacy to produce at large scale.
