LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, joined a video call with leaders of Nevada’s chambers of commerce to provide an update on her work in Congress to support small businesses and employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, including her work to extend the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). In Nevada, over 525,000 jobs have been retained as a result of PPP.
“I’m working to ensure that Nevada’s small businesses are not left behind in the federal government’s response to COVID,” said Senator Rosen. “Addressing issues affecting Nevada small businesses like lending to minority-owned businesses, language access for SBA application materials, ensuring that the U.S. Small Business Administration follows congressional intent in the CARES Act regarding EIDL loans, and most recently – extending the Paycheck Protection Program – are among my top priorities. I will continue to stand up for Nevada and make sure that our small businesses get equal access to all the resources they need.”
BACKGROUND: In June, Rosen helped introduce and pass in the U.S. Senate bipartisan legislation to extend the U.S. Small Business Administration’s authority to approve Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans to small businesses through August 8, 2020. That legislation was signed into law by the President. Without action from Congress, PPP would have expired at midnight on June 30th.
Senator Rosen previously partnered with Nevada’s Small Business Administration regional representatives and local chambers of commerce and organizations, including the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce, many of Nevada’s rural chambers of commerce, the Nevada REALTORS, the Las Vegas Urban Chamber of Commerce, the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, and the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce to provide updates on the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis and answer questions on access to federal resources.
