Rosen Applauds Over $4.5 Million in HHS Grant Funding Awarded to Nevada’s Community Health Alliance

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, released the following statement applauding news of a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded to the Community Health Alliance, a community health center located in Reno, Nevada. The grant, which totals $4,562,242, will help the Community Health Alliance continue caring for and treating underserved and uninsured individuals in Northern Nevada during COVID-19 and beyond.

“Now more than ever, Nevadans and vulnerable populations across the country need access to quality, affordable health care,” said Senator Rosen. “Over the past year, community health centers have answered the call, providing care to underserved communities that need it the most. It is critical that community health centers continue to receive federal support and funding for their critical role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as their ability to continue serving our most vulnerable communities. I am pleased that HHS recognizes the importance of organizations like the Community Health Alliance, and has allocated this grant funding to support their vital work.”

BACKGROUND: Community health centers provide affordable care to more than 29 million patients, including 385,000 veterans and 8.7 million children nationwide. Currently, there are small and rural communities in Nevada that do not have the population base to support full-time health centers and therefore do not have consistent access to primary care services.

This grant is one of 24 awarded by HHS to Nevada health care organizations in 2021.
