WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement ahead of tomorrow’s start of payments from the newly enhanced Child Tax Credit – a provision which was part of the American Rescue Plan Act, which Senator Rosen helped to pass.
“Starting tomorrow, families in Nevada and across our country will receive major tax relief thanks to our passage of the American Rescue Plan,” said Senator Rosen. “After facing down the many financial hardships of COVID-19, families in Nevada can count on the payments from our newly enhanced Child Tax Credit to offer an economic lifeline of support. This soon-to-be-implemented provision will help to cut child poverty in the United States in half and provide meaningful, direct relief to Nevadans across our communities. I encourage all Nevada families to learn more about this invaluable program and I will continue working to deliver real results for the people of Nevada.”
BACKGROUND: The American Rescue Plan Act – which Senator Rosen voted to pass in March – included a temporary expansion of the Child Tax Credit. This expanded Child Tax Credit will help working families by providing up to $3,600 per child (for children under the age of 6) and $3,000 per child (for children ages 6 to 17).
From July 15th to December 2021, qualifying families will receive monthly per-child payments up to $300 (for children under 6) or $250 (for children ages 6 to 17). Remaining payments will be paid in a lump sum when families file their 2021 tax returns.
