Rosen Secures Nearly $1 Million to Help Homeless Veterans Access Affordable Housing in Reno

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that she secured nearly $1 million for the City of Reno Housing Authority to help homeless veterans and their families access housing. This funding comes from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Affairs and Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program, for which Senator Rosen led a bipartisan push to fully fund.

“Veterans deserve the very best our nation can provide, and we cannot allow our heroes to struggle to keep a roof over their heads,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to have secured this funding to increase access to housing for veterans in Reno, and I will continue working to support veteran communities all across Nevada.”

“The Reno Housing Authority is delighted to receive these new vouchers and thank Senator Rosen, and our entire Congressional delegation, for recognizing the need and supporting our veteran population,” said Hillary Lopez, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Reno Housing Authority. “These vouchers are critically important to ensuring affordable housing and services to homeless and low-income veterans who have served our country. It’s fitting that RHA has the honor of serving those who served, and we look forward to working with our local Department of Veterans Affairs to increase the number of veterans assisted with these new resources.”

Senator Rosen has been a leader in supporting our nation’s veterans. Senator Rosen also secured a new VA hospital in Reno and Nevada’s first-ever Veteran Business Outreach Center. Additionally, Senator Rosen has co-sponsored the bipartisan GUARD VA Benefits Act to protect veterans from predatory practices. Last year, she helped pass the bipartisan PACT Act to extend VA benefits and health care to all veterans suffering from illnesses as a result of exposure to burn pits and other toxins during their service overseas.
