LAS VEGAS, NV – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced that $4.8 million is coming to Nevada to increase clean energy transit options at Harry Reid International Airport. These funds will be used to purchase twelve electric buses and charging stations to transport passengers and help reduce the airport’s carbon footprint.
“Harry Reid International Airport is the main gateway for Las Vegas, bringing in visitors and supporting our tourism economy,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to announce they’re receiving nearly $5 million in federal funds to boost its clean transportation infrastructure and reduce its carbon footprint.”
“I’ve fought to help grow Nevada’s electric vehicle infrastructure, and this funding I secured will provide clean transportation options to millions of visitors and Nevadans who travel through Las Vegas each year,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “The Harry Reid International Airport plays an essential role in supporting good paying jobs and driving our local economy, and I’ll continue to support investments in transportation across the Silver State.”
Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto have worked to ensure Nevada’s airports receive their fair share of federal funding. As a lead author of the airports section of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that both senators voted to pass, Senator Rosen helped create the Airport Terminal Program to provide funding to help airports expand and rebuild their terminals. Earlier this year, the senators announced that they secured $7 million for Reno-Tahoe International Airport’s terminal expansion project. Last year, they announced that Harry Reid International Airport received $31 million in funding from the Airport Terminal Program to go toward major terminal improvements across the airport, including significant baggage system upgrades that will enhance the travel experience to Las Vegas. Cortez Masto also secured multiple transportation provisions in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that have already delivered more than $39 million to Nevada for clean school buses and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. In 2018, she passed her GREEN Vehicles at Airports Act that ensured that airports could use FAA program funding to purchase and support zero-emissions vehicles.
