In Reno, Senator Rosen, Governor Lombardo Express Strong Opposition to USPS Plan to Move Mail Processing to Sacramento

RENO, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Governor Joe Lombardo held a press conference where they reaffirmed their strong, bipartisan opposition to the proposed downsizing and relocation of outgoing mail processing by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Senator Rosen also announced she is working on legislation to prevent USPS from moving forward with this misguided plan. Both Senator Rosen and Governor Lombardo reiterated their federal-state partnership as they continue working together to stop this plan from being implemented.

“I am proud to work with Governor Lombardo and our Northern Nevada Congressional Delegation to strongly oppose the misguided USPS plan to move Reno mail processing to Sacramento, and highlight the negative impacts this move would have for Nevada,” said Senator Rosen. “As Governor Lombardo and I made clear today: Washington bureaucrats don’t know our state or how much this proposal will hurt Nevadans’ ability to access timely mail delivery. This is a bad move for Nevada, and I’m working on legislation to stop it before it can be implemented.”

“In coordination with our federal delegation, my administration is continuing to fight back against the USPS relocation of the Reno Processing & Distribution Center, which will cause unacceptable delays for state agencies and constituents,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “Northern Nevadans deserve to have full confidence in our postal service, and we will continue to advocate for accountability from USPS.”

As a member of the committee that has jurisdiction over the USPS, Senator Rosen has been leading the efforts to protect postal operations in Nevada. During a recent Senate hearing she called out Postmaster General Louis DeJoy for neglecting to listen to local Nevada leaders, businesses, and residents. Senator Rosen and Governor Lombardo, along with Senator Cortez Masto and Congressman Amodei, sent a bipartisan letter to the USPS Board of Governors expressing their serious concerns with the plan to downsize and relocate part of the operations from Reno to Sacramento. Earlier this year, Governor Lombardo also penned a letter to Postmaster DeJoy expressing his serious concern with the plan. Following USPS’ official announcement that it would move forward with its plan, Senator Rosen denounced the decision and pledged to explore all available options to stop its implementation.
