WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement after the Supreme Court overturned the Trump Administration’s federal ban on bump stocks, which were used in the 1 October shooting in Las Vegas. These devices modify semi-automatic firearms to fire more ammunition faster, making these firearms even deadlier.
“I’m outraged by the Supreme Court’s decision to reverse a Trump-era federal ban on bump stocks, which were used in the 1 October shooting – making it the deadliest in U.S. history,” said Senator Rosen. “For years, this ban has been a common-sense, bipartisan approach to keeping communities safer and this shameful decision will put more lives at risk. It’s more important than ever for Congress to come together in a bipartisan way and pass legislation to permanently ban bump stocks.”
Senator Rosen has been a leading voice in the fight to keep communities safe from gun violence. In 2018, she welcomed the Trump Administration’s action to federally ban bump stocks in the aftermath of the 1 October shooting in Las Vegas. Since then, Senator Rosen has been calling for bipartisan, common-sense legislation to permanently ban bump stocks and save lives. For years, she has renewed this call on the Senate floor and urged her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to take bipartisan action.
