This Legislation Passed The House Of Representatives With Broad, Bipartisan Margins And Would Have Cut Taxes For Hardworking Nevada Families & Small Businesses
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) voted to pass a bipartisan middle class tax cuts package that Senate Republicans blocked from advancing. The bipartisan Tax Relief For American Families And Workers Act would have cut taxes for hardworking families, expanded affordable housing options, and made it easier for small businesses to compete globally. This bill passed the House of Representatives by a wide, bipartisan margin earlier this year, immediately after which Senator Rosen sent a letter urging Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to put the bipartisan tax cut package on the Senate floor for a vote.
“Hardworking Nevada families are facing skyrocketing costs, and I’ve been doing everything I can to deliver relief by cutting taxes and lowering costs for essentials like housing and gas,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m deeply disappointed that some Senate Republicans opted to put politics first and blocked this bipartisan bill to cut taxes for hardworking Nevadans from passing into law. Families need Congress to stop playing games and pass policies that provide real economic relief.”
The Rosen-backed tax bill would have expanded access to the Child Tax Credit, enhanced the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit to help address the affordable housing shortage, and restored research and development expensing to make it easier for small businesses to innovate and compete around the world.
Senator Rosen has been fighting to cut taxes and lower costs for hardworking Nevadans. Last month, she sent a letter to the chairs of the Senate Committee on Finance, urging them to provide tax relief to grow the middle class and lower costs for working families and small businesses while ensuring massive corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share. Last year, Rosen helped introduce the Working Families Tax Relief Act to lower taxes for Nevada families by expanding the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit. Senator Rosen also introduced a resolution opposing the creation of a federal sales tax and calling for a tax cut for working families to grow the middle class.
