ELKO, NV – This weekend, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) wrapped up a multi-day visit through Humboldt, Eureka, and Elko Counties. In Humboldt County, Senator Rosen met with Winnemucca Mayor Richard Stone to discuss his top priorities and how they can continue working together to deliver for Nevada families. In Eureka County, Senator Rosen attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for Nevada Gold Mines’ TS Solar Facility, which will help support Nevada’s clean energy transition and reduce carbon emissions. In Elko County, Senator Rosen visited Great Basin College, where she met with Interim President Amber Donnelli and college administrators and faculty to discuss updates on federally-funded projects she helped secure, and actions to help support the college’s efforts to serve students in eastern Nevada. She also visited the Cowboy Arts and Gear Museum in Elko, where she spoke with the museum director and chair of the Western Folklife Center about supporting local tourism efforts. Finally, she met with the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association to discuss ways she can continue working across the aisle to support Nevada’s ranchers.
“My top priority in the U.S. Senate is to deliver for Nevadans across our state, which is why I’ve been working across the aisle to support legislation and secure federal funding that invests in our rural communities,” said Senator Rosen. “I was glad to meet with Nevadans in Humboldt, Eureka, and Elko counties to discuss my efforts to boost the local tourism economy, invest in education, grow Nevada’s solar industry and support good-paying jobs, and stand up for our ranchers. I’ll keep working to ensure rural Nevada communities have the resources and support they need to thrive.”
Senator Rosen has been working across party lines to bring resources to rural Nevada. Last month, she chaired a hearing of the Senate Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion on helping rural businesses grow domestically and compete abroad through exportation. Last year, Senator Rosen also announced over $3 million in funding to support public schools, roads, and local services for rural communities in Nevada from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law she helped write and pass. Over the past several years, she has helped secure more than $120 million for 68 different community projects in rural Nevada counties.
Senator Rosen has also been a champion for Nevada’s ranchers and farmers. Last week, she announced new legislation she introduced to improve weather forecasting to help farmers and ranchers better predict extreme weather such as flash floods and drought. Earlier this year, she co-sponsored bipartisan legislation to block a Biden Administration effort to allow beef imports from Paraguay over concerns it would hurt Nevada’s ranchers and cattlemen. She later crossed the aisle to vote for and help pass this legislation. Last year, Senator Rosen broke with her party to vote in favor of striking down a proposed Biden Administration regulation of U.S. waterways that would have made it harder for ranchers and farmers to do their jobs.
