ICYMI: Rosen: Lowering Costs, Tackling Kitchen-Table Issues A Priority in Second Term in U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In recent interviews with outlets across Nevada, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has pointed out that a top priority for her second term will be addressing the kitchen-table issues that are top of mind for hardworking Nevada families. From lowering the high costs of housing, groceries, and child care, to creating more good-paying jobs and improving access to health care, Senator Rosen will continue working to deliver for Nevadans.

Reporter: “Working and listening is how Democratic Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen says she plans to get things done in a second term in the US Senate, a Senate that Republicans will control in January. It’s not a challenge, but an opportunity for Rosen, who often crosses the aisle, working with Republicans on issues important to her, like support for tourism and small businesses.”

Senator Rosen: “Those will be things that are very much bipartisan for everyone. I have built those relationships over the last six years and will continue to work on that.”

Reporter: “The work is already underway just days after Rosen won reelection. Now the task at hand is buttoning up Democrats’ legislative agenda and preparing for what President-Elect Donald Trump has already proposed: plans Rosen supports, like no taxes on tips.”

Senator Rosen: “We want to make sure there’s the right guardrails so the people who get the tax relief are the ones that deserve it and not a CEO who decides his entire paycheck is a tip.”

KUNR Reno: Rosen says she is committed to addressing kitchen-table issues in second term

Reporter: “Her priorities include affordable housing, addressing the rising cost of living, and workforce development.”

Senator Rosen: “My priority has and always will be Nevada. I heard directly from Nevadans all across the state about their concerns. Price of eggs, milk, bread, other groceries are still too high. Housing continues to be too unaffordable or just unavailable. Health care is still too hard to access and too expensive.”

Reporter: “Rosen says she is committed to addressing kitchen-table issues. These include reducing the price of groceries by cracking down on corporate price gouging. She says she will also support workforce training programs to equip Nevadans with skills for high-paying jobs. Rosen plans to continue to use her bipartisan approach to problem-solving.”

Reporter: “Jacky Rosen is setting her sights on new legislation to tackle housing affordability, healthcare, and reproductive rights. I have more on the Senator’s goals for next term.”

Senator Rosen: “My motto is agree where you can and fight where you must.”

Reporter: “Newly reelected Senator, Jacky Rosen, says she already got her priorities set for this term. Starting with her push to pass the HOME Act, aimed at making housing more affordable and accessible for Nevadans.”

Senator Rosen: “If you’re these corporate investors who’ve been coming to Nevada, buying up apartments and homes, and then what they do is they just jack up the rent, jack up the price for a sale, nobody can afford it, we’re going to hold them accountable, we’re going to fine them, and that money will go back into a pool to pay for more affordable housing.”

Reporter: “Rosen also emphasized her commitment to protecting access to healthcare, specifically the Affordable Care Act, which she argues is vital for saving lives amid ongoing challenges to the legislation under the Trump Administration.”

Senator Rosen: “For us as senators, it’s certainly really important to think about what the local issues are in your state. And we can talk about, let’s say affordable housing: there may be reasons across the country why there [are] affordable housing issues, but the solutions are going to be different, they might  be different for Southern Nevada than they are for Northern Nevada.”
