Currently, Employees Like Teachers and Firefighters Receiving A Public Pension Often See Social Security Benefits Substantially Reduced
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped pass bipartisan legislation in the Senate to expand Social Security benefits to millions of public servants, including teachers, firefighters, and first responders. Currently, individuals who receive other public benefits, such as a government pension, often cannot access the full Social Security benefits they have earned when they retire or face the death of a spouse. The bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act will end this unfair practice and allow these individuals to collect their full Social Security benefits.
“Anyone who pays into Social Security throughout their entire career deserves to have full access to its benefits when they retire – and our public servants should be no exception,” said Senator Rosen. “I helped pass the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act in the Senate to allow firefighters, teachers, and other first responders to be able to fully access their Social Security benefits. I look forward to seeing it signed into law.”
Senator Rosen has been a staunch supporter of both Social Security and Medicare. She has vocally and repeatedly called to protect them and the benefits they provide to Americans. Last year, she renewed her commitment to fight against any attempts in Congress to cut Social Security and Medicare.
