LAS VEGAS, NV – On Friday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), chair of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade and Export Promotion, led a field hearing that examined ways to attract large sporting and entertainment events to the U.S., with a focus on Las Vegas’ experience, and the impacts that sporting and live entertainment events have on the local economy. Witnesses for the hearing included CEO and President of MGM Resorts International Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Vegas Chamber Mary Beth Sewald, and President of the Las Vegas Raiders Sandra Douglass Morgan.

Meantime, Rosen says she’s a champion for our state’s travel and tourism economy. She’s working on legislation now to push things even further, including federal funding for a high-speed rail system.”

Reporter: “Allegiant has also hosted a total of 22 concerts with their entertainment attendants coming in at just under a million attendees. Senator Rosen spoke about all of the entertainers coming and filling 65,000 seats at the stadium. She says it’s pushing people who had not considered visiting Las Vegas before to come.”
Senator Rosen: “Most people come here for about 3 or 4 days. And so now we’re having all kinds of new folks, young and old, coming for these great concerts. A couple of days for Taylor Swift, I think Beyonce is here for a couple of days, I know the stadium opened with Garth Brooks. We’ve had K-Pop, and we’ve had just everything. 65,000 seats we fill at Allegiant Stadium. The $2 billion stadium that serves as the Las Vegas Raiders home has also hosted 20 NFL games.”
