WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped pass out of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee bipartisan legislation to increase transparency in government projects that are delayed or over budget. The bipartisan Billion Dollar Boondoggle Act, which Senator Rosen has co-sponsored, would require federal agencies to issue annual reports to Congress on government projects that are either five years behind schedule or more than $1 billion over budget. Federal agencies would also have to explain the delay or increase in cost to Congress. The bill advanced out of committee by a unanimous vote of 15-0 and can now be considered on the Senate floor.
“Nevadans deserve to know exactly how their hard-earned money is being spent on government projects,” said Senator Rosen. “It’s the responsibility of Congress to safeguard taxpayer dollars, and I’m fighting every day to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse. That’s why I helped pass out of committee this bipartisan bill to increase transparency, and I’ll continue working to see that it becomes law.”
Senator Rosen continues to fight government waste and safeguard Nevadans’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars. Her bipartisan No CORRUPTION Act, which would bar Members of Congress from collecting taxpayer-funded pensions if they are convicted of felonies related to their official duties, passed the Senate in July. Earlier this year, Senator Rosen also helped introduce the bipartisan Disaster Contract Improvement Act to mitigate waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayers’ dollars by improving the disaster contracting process following natural disasters.
