WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) released the following statement announcing the distribution of $2,602,698 in CARES Act funding awarded to the state of Nevada to be used for tenant-based rental assistance.
“We have heard from Nevadans all across our state who are worried about their ability to pay rent during this time of crisis,” said the Senators. “This much-needed funding for rental assistance will help Nevadans stay sheltered and safe during the coronavirus pandemic. We will continue working to support the health and well-being of Nevadans, and that includes ensuring access to housing.”
BACKGROUND: The CARES Act provided $1.25 billion for Tenant-Based Rental Assistance, which funds the Housing Choice Voucher Program, including $400 million for increased subsidy costs and $850 million for administrative and other expenses incurred by public housing authorities (PHAs), “activities to support or maintain the health and safety of assisted individuals and families, and costs related to retention and support of participating owners.”
Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto voted in support of the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
