RENO, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) toured the Sheet Metal Workers’ Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee Facility in Reno to see firsthand how they are training workers in Northern Nevada with the skills necessary to fill good-paying jobs in the area. She was joined by Tom Blotzke, President of the Northern Nevada Apprenticeship Coordinators Association, and Rob Benner, Secretary-Treasurer of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Northern Nevada.
“I was glad to tour the sheet metal apprenticeship and training facility in Reno today, and hear about the critical work they’re doing to train workers to fill good-paying jobs,” said Senator Rosen. “I’ve been proud to help pass the federal investments that are making these jobs possible, and I’ll keep working in the U.S. Senate to create more union jobs.”
Senator Rosen has been a strong advocate for Nevada workers. Last year, Senator Rosen helped introduce the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which would strengthen protections for workers’ right to organize a union and bargain for higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. Senator Rosen also pushed Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Julie Su to ensure that PLAs are being used for federal projects stemming from legislation she helped pass, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the bipartisan CHIPS And Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act.
