WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) released the following statement announcing $10,038,135 in grant allocations awarded to Nevada from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to be used for Fiscal Year 2020 preparedness programs.
“Our top priority is looking out for the safety and well-being of Nevadans and all who visit our state,” said the Senators. “We applaud the Department of Homeland Security for allocating these funds to Nevada which, among other things, will be used to protect our cities, our state as a whole, our places of worship, and our public transportation systems. We will continue working in Congress to ensure Nevada is provided with the resources and funding needed to ensure our safety.”
BACKGROUND: The final FY 2020 grant allocations are broken up into the following categories:
- State Homeland Security Program: $4,287,500 to Nevada
- Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI): $5,250,000 to the Las Vegas Area
- Nonprofit Security Grant Program (Urban Areas): 3 applicants funded in the Las Vegas Area for a total of $299,877 (see breakdown below)
- Nevada Las Vegas Area Bet Yossef Community Center: $100,000
- Nevada Las Vegas Area Community Kollel of Greater Las Vegas: $100,000
- Nevada Las Vegas Area Lev Hashem Messianic Jewish Synagogue: $99,877
- Nevada Las Vegas Area Bet Yossef Community Center: $100,000
- Nonprofit Security Grant Program: $172,936 to 2 Nevada applicants (see breakdown below)
- Nevada St. Teresa of Avila School: $72,936
- Nevada Temple Sinai – Reform: $100,000
- Nevada St. Teresa of Avila School: $72,936
- Intercity Bus Security Grant Program: $27,882 to TC Nevada, LLC dba Luxury Transportation
