Rosen Joins Bill to Ban Members of Congress from Owning, Trading Individual Stocks

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced she has cosponsored legislation to restore trust in government by banning members of Congress and their families from owning and trading individual stocks. The Ending Trading and Holdings in Congressional Stocks (ETHICS) Act, which has bipartisan support in the House, would also expand disclosure requirements and increase penalties for non-compliance.

“No member of Congress should ever be allowed to enrich themselves through corrupt stock trading using information gained through their official duties,” said Senator Rosen. “We need to clean up Washington and ensure all lawmakers are actually serving the public interest, which is why I’m supporting this common-sense legislation to prevent members of Congress from abusing their taxpayer-funded position for personal financial gain. This comprehensive bill will strengthen congressional ethics and increase transparency.”

Senator Rosen has been a leader in fighting corruption and rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. Her bipartisan No CORRUPTION Act, which would bar members of Congress from collecting taxpayer-funded pensions if they are convicted of felonies related to their official duties, passed the Senate in July 2023. Senator Rosen has also backed the Close the Revolving Door Act to reduce lobbyist influence in Washington and ban former members of Congress from lobbying. She has also cosponsored legislation to increase ethics and transparency for Supreme Court justices and their staff.
