KTVN Reno: Senator Rosen and Governor Lombardo Trying to Stop Postal Service’s Decision to have Reno’s Outgoing Mail Sent to Sacramento

Reporter: “Well, both Governor Joe Lombardo and Senator Jacky Rosen were in Reno today, reaffirming that they are against this. A few weeks ago, they sent a bipartisan letter to the Postal Board of Governors, asking them to step in. With it appearing that the Postal Service is moving forward on this,  lawmakers are exploring other avenues to ensure that all Reno outgoing mail facilities stay right here.”

Senator Rosen: “And if these actions don’t work, I’m here to announce that I’m working on legislation to put a stop to all of this.”

Governor Lombardo: “I’m proud to stand next to Senator Rosen in this effort. This is not a partisan issue, it’s a bipartisan issue and it’s for the people of the state of Nevada.

KOLO Reno: Rosen, Lombardo come together in Reno to oppose USPS move

Anchor: “Senator Jacky Rosen announcing her intention to pursue new legislative action if the U.S. Postmaster General continues with his plan to move our mail processing down to Sacramento. She revealed this next step forward today alongside Governor Joe Lombardo at a news conference at the mail facility on Vassar Street. The Democrat senator and Republican governor say this is a bipartisan issue too big and too important to ignore. They’re most concerned about how the weather could affect Donner Pass, delaying your mail delivery during the winter months, and about the Postmaster General: that he has remained silent despite several attempts to share ideas about what is best for the people here in northern Nevada.”

Anchor: “If DeJoy continues this plan to relocate our mail processing in January, Rosen will introduce new legislation from her position on the Senate Oversight Committee.”

KRNV Reno: Rosen, Lombardo Hold Press Conference Opposing Mail Move

Senator Rosen: “It’s become clear to us that Postmaster DeJoy and other Washington bureaucrats literally did not think of these potential impacts, as they did not consult our local communities as they were putting this proposal together.”

Governor Lombardo: “That’s the important piece here. The arrogance in refusing to communicate for the people, and constituents, and the representatives of the state of Nevada.”

Reno Gazette Journal: Legislation, lawsuit vowed in fight to block USPS plan to move Reno mail processing

By Mark Robinson

Key Points:

  • Two new offensive weapons were announced Tuesday in the fight to block the U.S. Postal Service from moving Reno’s mail-processing facilities to Sacramento: legislation and lawsuits.
  • U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen, a Democrat, teamed with Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo outside the Vassar Street post office to show a bipartisan front against USPS.
  • Rosen vowed that if the postal plans move forward, she will work with U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, a Republican, and the rest of Nevada’s Congressional delegation to “draft, push and pass legislation that is going to keep our mail-processing services and jobs in the state right here where they belong.”
  • Rosen and Lombardo say they want to see the data that USPS is using to justify moving Reno mail processing — and that Postmaster Louis DeJoy has been uncommunicative and not provided evidence, despite repeated requests, to back up his claims that Nevada service will improve at a lower cost.
