In Midst of Record-Breaking Heat Wave, Senator Rosen Visits Las Vegas Cooling Center to Discuss Need for Federal Resources to Protect Against Extreme Heat

LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) visited a cooling center in Las Vegas with local emergency management personnel and first responders to discuss the local efforts being taken to protect Nevadans from the effects of extreme heat and how more federal resources can help.

“As Nevada experiences more frequent and more dangerous extreme heat waves, we need to ensure that our local communities and first responders have all of the resources they need to keep Nevadans safe,” said Senator Rosen. “I visited one of the many cooling centers in Las Vegas to see firsthand the critical work they do, what challenges they face, and discuss what federal resources Nevada needs to better prepare for extreme heat events. I’ll keep working in Congress to make sure that Nevada gets those resources it needs.”

Senator Rosen has been fighting to ensure that Nevadans have access to federal resources to stay safe during worsening natural disasters. Earlier this year, she visited the National Weather Station in Reno to discuss how to best support local communities through wildfire season. After last year’s winter storms, Senator Rosen urged the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency to assist impacted Nevada farmers and ranchers and successfully pushed President Biden to provide more resources and heed Governor Lombardo’s call to issue a Major Disaster Declaration for Nevada. Senator Rosen has also called on the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide federal assistance to address extreme heat in Nevada.
