WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped pass bipartisan legislation out of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to cut red tape and make it easier for individuals and families devastated by natural disasters, such as wildfires or severe weather, to request federal assistance. The bipartisan Federal Disaster Assistance Coordination Act would require agencies to identify ways to consolidate and improve the collection of disaster information from applicants and grantees, streamlining the disaster assistance process.
“After a devastating natural disaster, the last thing Nevada families should be worried about is burdensome red tape slowing down their ability to get the federal assistance they need,” said Senator Rosen. “I helped pass this bipartisan bill in committee to make the disaster assistance process more efficient so individuals can access recovery resources faster.”
Senator Rosen has been leading the fight to ensure that Nevadans have access to federal resources to stay safe during natural disasters. Earlier this year, she introduced legislation to make disaster funding and resources available for damages due to extreme heat. After last year’s winter storms, Senator Rosen urged the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency to assist impacted Nevada farmers and ranchers and successfully pushed President Biden to provide more resources and heed Governor Lombardo’s call to issue a Major Disaster Declaration for Nevada. Senator Rosen has also called on the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide federal assistance to address extreme heat in Nevada.
