WASHINGTON D.C. – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) addressed a panel hosted by the Anti-Defamation League. Senator Rosen discussed the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Anti-Semitism’s efforts to curb the disturbing rise of anti-Semitism in the United States and globally, including by advocating for comprehensive Holocaust education.
“We have a responsibility to our neighbors, our friends, our community, and our children to help prevent anti-Semitism before it starts. With anti-Semitism on the rise and Holocaust awareness declining, the most powerful tool to prevent human rights atrocities like the Holocaust from occurring again is through education,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m glad to join the Anti-Defamation League in speaking out against hate, and in support of the Never Again Education Act, bipartisan legislation that I introduced that is now law. This law will help ensure that schools and educators have the resources and materials to teach the lessons of the Holocaust, in order to ensure that the words ‘Never Again’ hold true. I will continue to stand up and speak out against bigotry and hate in whatever form they might take.”
BACKGROUND: Senator Rosen holds the distinction of being the third female Jewish Senator in U.S. history, as well as the first former synagogue president to serve in the United States Senate. As such, Senator Rosen has been an outspoken advocate of combating anti-Semitism in the United States, the Middle East, Europe, and around the world.
Last year, Senator Rosen joined Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) to introduce the Never Again Education Act, bipartisan legislation that would establish a dedicated federal fund to provide teachers with resources and training necessary to teach our students the important lessons of the Holocaust. In May, the Never Again Education Act was signed into law.
Last year, Rosen launched the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Anti-Semitism, with co-chair Senator James Lankford (R-OK).
In January, Rosen and Lankford, along with Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) introduced a resolution commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by Allied Forces during World War II. The bipartisan resolution unanimously passed the Senate in February.
