WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) released the following statement announcing that the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) has been awarded a grant totaling $500,000 from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to enhance operational efficiency and the mobility of transit users affected by the pandemic.
“As we work to address the pandemic, we must not forget the role that safe and reliable public transportation plays in our ongoing recovery efforts,” said the Senators. “This grant will provide RTC of Southern Nevada with funding to improve the safety of customers by implementing contactless payment systems to mitigate the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and better serve Nevadans who rely on public transportation. We will continue working in Congress to protect the health of Nevadans and improve our transportation infrastructure.”
BACKGROUND: Last October, Senator Rosen and Senator Cortez Masto wrote letters of support for this grant for RTC of Southern Nevada. The Senators also sent a letter to Congressional leadership in September advocating for additional federal infrastructure investments as the country recovers from the economic consequences of COVID-19, which ensured more transportation funding was included in the most recent coronavirus relief legislation.
