Rosen Tours New York-New York Hotel & Casino, T-Mobile Arena, Discusses Efforts to Promote Tourism and Hospitality Industries

LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, during National Travel and Tourism Week, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen, Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion, visited the New York-New York Hotel & Casino and the T-Mobile Arena to learn more about how Congress can support the recovery efforts of the state’s tourism industry.

“Nevada’s travel, tourism, and hospitality industries are key cornerstones of our state’s economy, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, these industries have faced unprecedented challenges,” said Senator Rosen. “Today, I visited the New York-New York Hotel & Casino and the T-Mobile Arena to underscore how I can continue my efforts to support businesses in these industries and help get Nevadans back to work.”

BACKGROUND: In February, Rosen was named Chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s newly formed Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion.

Today’s visit follows the Rosen-Chaired Subcommittee’s inaugural hearing – the first in a series — on the challenges that travel, tourism, and hospitality businesses are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The inaugural hearing featured testimony from Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Association President Steve Hill, and representatives of MGM Resorts, and the U.S. Travel Association.

In remarks following her visit today, Rosen noted that her Subcommittee’s next two hearings would focus, respectively, on international tourism and on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on hospitality workers and tourism-related small businesses.
