WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), released the following statement commemorating the anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
“Eighteen years ago, our nation experienced an act of horrific and violent terror that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent victims and left thousands of others injured,” said Senator Rosen. “Today, we honor the memories of those who were lost, we commend the heroism of our first-responders who came forth to save lives, we offer our prayers to those who lost loved-ones, and we celebrate our nation’s strength in the face of evil. We must also remember that many of the brave first-responders who stepped up that day still suffer from illness and injury as a direct result of their heroic actions. We must recommit ourselves to caring for these heroes and ensuring that their health needs are met. This day is also a time to honor the many members of our armed forces who stepped up to serve in the wake of this national tragedy. Today, we come together as one nation in recognition of our American values and in remembrance of the resiliency of the American people.”
BACKGROUND: In July, Senator Rosen voted to pass the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act (HR. 1327), legislation to extend authorization for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001 through fiscal year 2092. The legislation was later signed into law.
