WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), announced her co-sponsorship of a bipartisan resolution recognizing the work, goals, and achievements of 523 non-profit Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) throughout our nation, including many in Nevada. The resolution designates the week of September 16th through 22nd as National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week.
“Hispanic-Serving Institutions provide an invaluable educational experience to Nevadans, and communities across our country,” said Senator Rosen. “I am proud to recognize the important role that these institutions play in providing a quality education to Hispanic members of our communities. I will continue to support institutions of higher education that provide students with the skills needed to succeed.”
BACKGROUND: Hispanic-Serving Institutions are defined as degree-granting institutions where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes of no less than 25% of the total enrollment.
Nevada is home to four Hispanic-Serving Institutions, including: College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State College, Truckee Meadows Community College, and University of Nevada Las Vegas; and two emerging HSIs: University of Nevada Reno and Western Nevada College.

Durante el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, Rosen copatrocina una resolución bipartidista en honor a las Instituciones al Servicio de los Hispanos
WASHINGTON, DC – Hoy, la Senadora Jacky Rosen (D-NV), miembro del Comité de Salud, Educación, Trabajo y Pensiones (HELP, por sus siglas en inglés), anunció su copatrocinio de una resolución bipartidista que reconoce el trabajo, los objetivos y logros de 523 Instituciones al Servicio de los Hispanos sin fines de lucro (HSI, por sus siglas en inglés). La resolución designa la semana del 16 al 22 de septiembre como Semana Nacional de las Instituciones que Sirven a los Hispanos.
“Las instituciones que sirven a los hispanos le brindan una experiencia educativa invaluable a los Nevadenses y las comunidades de todo el país”, dijo la Senadora Rosen. “Me enorgullece reconocer el importante papel que desempeñan estas instituciones para brindar una educación de calidad a los miembros hispanos de nuestras comunidades. Continuaré apoyando a las instituciones de educación superior que le brindan a los estudiantes las habilidades necesarias para tener éxito”.
ANTECEDENTES: Las instituciones que sirven a hispanos se definen como instituciones que otorgan títulos donde la inscripción hispana total constituye no menos del 25% de la inscripción total.
Nevada es el hogar de cuatro instituciones que sirven a los hispanos: College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State College, Truckee Meadows Community College y University of Nevada Las Vegas; y dos instituciones emergentes: University of Nevada Reno y Western Nevada College.
