LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement celebrating Filipino American History Month, which each October sheds light on the Filipino American community’s many contributions to our country.
“During the month of October, we recognize and celebrate the numerous contributions of Filipino Americans to our communities,” said Senator Rosen. “Let’s take time to reflect on their many accomplishments, including to our business community, in our schools, and in the military. This Filipino American History Month, let’s celebrate the strength of diversity in our state and our nation.”
BACKGROUND: This past May, Senator Rosen helped introduce legislation to exempt children of Filipino World War II veterans, who were naturalized by President George H.W. Bush, from caps on immigrant visas. As a Member of the House, Rosen helped introduce the Filipino Veterans Fairness Act, legislation to give the widows and children of Filipino World War II veterans the same eligibility for benefits provided to the families of all other veterans and also require the Department of Veterans Affairs to recognize alternative documentation when determining eligibility.
