WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) met with a group of Nevada postal workers to hear about the challenges they are facing amid COVID-19 and new policies enacted by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy that have negatively impacted mail delivery. While temporarily paused, such policies have already hurt postal customers and workers across the country and may do so again if allowed to go back into effect. This meeting with postal workers comes in the lead up to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s testimony before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Postal Service and of which Senator Rosen is a member.
“The past several months have taught us that neither snow, nor rain, nor global pandemic will stop the incredible women and men of the of the U.S. Postal Service from doing their jobs. For that we are continually grateful,” said Senator Rosen. “However, I am extremely concerned by recent reports of overtime elimination, mail delivery slowdowns, and potential issues with mail-in ballots. Nevadans and all Americans rely on the Postal Service – seniors who receive their medicine and Social Security benefits via mail, rural businesses in need of support to keep their shops open, and students who rely on supplies shipped to them for at home learning. The Postal Service is an invaluable institution and we must ensure its protection today and always.”
