Rosen Addresses 2019 Senate Democratic Latino Summit

WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), addressed the audience at the 2019 Senate Democratic Latino Summit, emphasizing the strength of diversity in Nevada, and the need to work together on key issues affecting Nevada communities.

“In my home state of Nevada, our diversity truly is one of our greatest strengths,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “We must ensure that Nevada’s Latino community, one of the largest Latino communities in the country, has access to the resources necessary to succeed, and we must address critical issues that impact our communities, issues such as access to quality education, affordable health care, workforce training, and comprehensive immigration reform. I will continue working with my colleagues on legislation that supports Nevada’s many diverse communities.”

BACKGROUND: Last month, Senator Rosen spoke at a symposium focused on Hispanic and minority serving institutions, hosted by the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) at the College of Southern Nevada. During her remarks, Senator Rosen touched upon the importance of supporting Hispanic and minority students in their pursuit of higher education.

Also last month, Senator Rosen co-sponsored a bipartisan resolution recognizing the work, goals, and achievements of 523 non-profit Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) throughout our nation, including those in Nevada.

Last week, Senator Rosen held a press conference alongside plaintiffs in the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) cases calling on Congress to pass legislation to protect our nation’s Dreamers.

Senator Rosen also recently joined 49 current and former Senators and 123 current and former U.S. Representatives in filing a bipartisan amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court supporting the DACA program.
