WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) released a statement announcing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded $6.5 million to Nevada to support the COVID-19 response.
“As we work to combat the coronavirus, it is critical that our state has the resources needed to effectively protect Nevadans,” said the Senators. “These funds will help support our state’s response to the spread of this virus. We will continue working in the Senate and with Governor Sisolak to provide Nevadans with much needed resources to protect public health, safety, and well-being.”
BACKGROUND: Through the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020, which Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto voted for earlier this month, the CDC will award over $560 million in initial funding to states, localities, and territories. On Friday, March 6, the President signed the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020. The supplemental contains $8.3 billion in resources in the form of directed grants or cooperative agreements to states, localities, and territories to accelerate planning and operational readiness for COVID-19 preparedness and response, as well as develop tools and strategies, provide technical assistance and program support, as well as ensure ongoing communication and coordination among public health agencies and partners throughout the response.
