LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), joined a video call with Nevada community health centers (CHC) to learn about the challenges that they are facing in Nevada and to provide an update on her work in Congress to support health care providers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Community health centers provide Americans with critical, affordable health care including testing and treatment for COVID-19,” said Senator Rosen. “I had a productive meeting today and heard directly from community health centers across the Silver State about the struggles they are facing. Congress must support community health centers to ensure they can continue their vital work to provide health care to those most in need. I will continue working to ensure these lifesaving providers get the funding they need to combat the pandemic and protect the health of Nevadans.”
BACKGROUND: Community health centers provide affordable care to more than 29 million patients, including 385,000 veterans and 8.7 million children nationwide.
In April, Rosen joined a letter urging Senate leadership to include $15 billion for critical support for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs in upcoming coronavirus relief legislation. In their letter, the Senators highlighted how Title VIII programs connect patients with nursing care across a variety of settings, including community health centers, hospitals, and schools of nursing.
In May, Rosen joined a bicameral letter to congressional leadership urging them to provide at least $77.3 billion for community health centers (CHCs) in upcoming coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) stimulus packages.
In June, Rosen joined a bipartisan letter to Senate appropriators urging the Senate Appropriations Committee to support additional emergency funding for our nation’s community health centers.
