WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement announcing that the Department of Labor awarded $68 million in funding to 340 Native American organizations and Tribes nationwide, including nearly $630,000 in grants to support Nevada tribal communities:
“Far before the COVID-19 pandemic, Native American communities have been disproportionately impacted by historical, cultural, and economic trauma. These grants will provide job training, skills development, and other support services to Nevada’s tribal communities, which contribute so much to our state,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I will always fight for Nevada’s Native youth and adults, and get them the resources they need to build their futures while preserving their heritage.”
BACKGROUND: The Division of Indian and Native American Programs (DINAP) WIOA Section 166 grantees and the Department of Labor share a vision of providing quality employment and training services to tribes, tribal organizations, Alaska Native entities, Indian controlled organizations, and Native Hawaiian organizations serving unemployed and low-income Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. This grant will support those organizations with on-the-job training, work experience, skills development, and supportive services.
The 4 Nevadan organizations that received funding include: the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, the Las Vegas Indian Center, Inc., the Reno Sparks Indian Colony, and the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes.
