LAS VEGAS, NV – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), held a roundtable with For Our Future Nevada and representatives from the American Postal Workers Union and the National Association of Letter Carriers to discuss the pressures they face under Postmaster General DeJoy’s leadership, particularly in advance of upcoming election, where the USPS has the challenge of safely and securely delivering ballots during a global health pandemic.
“These past several months have taught us that neither rain, nor snow, nor global pandemic will stop the incredible men and women of the U.S. Postal Service, despite the troubling and often unreliable leadership of Postmaster General DeJoy,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “Nevadans rely on the Postal Service every day – seniors rely on it to receive medication and Social Security checks, rural businesses to keep their shops open, and during the 2020 General Election, the Postal Service will handle the largest vote-by-mail program in American history. I will continue supporting our postal workers, and working to ensure transparency and accountability by USPS leadership so that postal workers can safely and efficiently do their jobs, and Nevadans can securely and confidently vote-by-mail.”
BACKGROUND: In August, during a Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGAC) hearing, Senator Rosen, the only member of the Nevada delegation serving on a committee that oversees the U.S. Postal Service, questioned Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on policies that have negatively impacted Americans and their mail delivery. This hearing followed Senator Rosen’s meeting with Nevada postal workers.
