LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, visited Truffles N Bacon Cafe, a Las Vegas restaurant that has been impacted by COVID-19. Senator Rosen spoke with owner Magnolia Magat and Executive Chef Jackie Lim, who recently secured a second Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan through Navy Federal Credit Union in order to keep their business afloat. They also discussed the Senator’s work to support Nevada’s small business community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Since opening their doors in 2014, Truffles N Bacon has become a staple of the Las Vegas restaurant community, and one of over 20,000 AAPI-owned small businesses that call our state home,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, they, like many restaurants and small businesses in Nevada, have faced difficult economic challenges. During my visit, we discussed how the Paycheck Protection Program, which I successfully worked to extend, has helped to retain hundreds of thousands of jobs in Nevada and helped businesses just like this one get through this challenging time. I will continue fighting for workers, small business owners, and all Nevadans in need of assistance.”
BACKGROUND: Senator Rosen was a co-sponsor of the PPP Extension Act of 2021, bipartisan legislation which extends the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) through May 31, 2021. The bill was convirtió en ley on March 30, 2021.
Since the inception of the Paycheck Protection Program in April 2020 until March 28, 2021, Nevada small businesses have received a total of 77,941 PPP loans, amounting to more than $6 billion.
los American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which Senator Rosen voted in support of, and which was convirtió en ley on March 11, 2021, includes:
- $25 billion for direct aid to restaurants,
- $15 billion in new EIDL grants for small businesses, in line with the amount in Senator Rosen’s EIDL for Small Businesses Act, and
- $7.25 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program, including expanded eligibility.
