Rosen Visits Nevada Discovery Museum, Participates in STEAM Education Children’s Camp

RENO, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, visited the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum, northern Nevada’s only hands-on, STEAM-focused, museum and learning center. The Discovery Museum runs a number of summer camps focused on hands-on STEAM learning. During her visit, Senator Rosen interacted with the campers and participated in the camp’s activities.

“Investing in comprehensive education is key to ensuring our students have a successful future,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “Today, I visited the Discovery Museum in Reno and had the opportunity to observe how they provide Nevada’s children with access to fun, engaging, educational experiences focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and math. In Congress, I have consistently worked to support expanding educational resources and to ensure that access to STEAM education is provided equitably across our communities, setting our children up for future success.”

BACKGROUND: los United States Innovation and Competition Act – which Senator Rosen helped pass the U.S. Senate earlier this month – includes a bipartisan Rosen-backed amendment to direct the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support rural STEM education and workforce development through grants for research on teaching STEM in rural schools, barriers rural students face in accessing STEM education, and solutions to improve the participation of rural pre-K-12 students in STEM. This amendment is based on the Rosen-co-led Rural STEM Education Act.

Earlier this year, Senator Rosen introduced the TEACH CS Act, bipartisan, bicameral legislation to support teacher training and schools in educating students in the area of computer science.
