WASHINGTON DC – Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) sat down with Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) to highlight their bipartisan efforts to address the student mental health crisis through their Youth Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Act, which would authorize the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to provide direct funding assistance to K-12 schools for student mental health promotion and suicide prevention efforts. This funding is currently available for colleges and universities, but not for K-12 school districts.

Senator Rosen: “We want to do everything we can to prevent those deaths. Anybody that works in a school should be trained to recognize the signs of distress for the students who would be in their age group at that school.”
