ELKO, NV – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) concluded a tour across Nevada’s rural communities today in Elko, where she toured the Elko Regional Airport and hosted a roundtable with local stakeholders. At the Elko Regional Airport, Senator Rosen met with Mayor Reece Keener and Airport Manager Jim Foster to learn more about plans for projects at the airport using funds she helped secure in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. During the roundtable, Senator Rosen talked to local leaders about how recent and forthcoming federal infrastructure investments will increase broadband access in Nevada’s rural communities.
“Many Nevadans, especially in rural areas, lack reliable access to high-speed internet service and air travel, which is why I helped write the broadband and airport sections of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and made sure communities across our state would be able to benefit,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “Hearing directly from Elko leaders and residents about their challenges and how they will benefit from the infrastructure law’s historic investments helps shape my commitment to fighting for rural Nevada in the Senate.”
Senator Rosen helped write the broadband and airport sections of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and thanks to her efforts, Elko Regional Airport received over $1 million in airport infrastructure funding. Senator Rosen also ensured that rural communities would get access to quality high-speed internet by including more than $2 billion in USDA rural broadband funds, $40 billion for last mile broadband connections, and $1 billion in middle mile investments in the infrastructure law, based on her Middle Mile Broadband Deployment Act. Last month, Senator Rosen announced that her Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure Program is accepting applications from public entities and nonprofits. The $1 billion program is a part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
