Senator Rosen Also Visited Nevada Gold Mines Cortez Complex
BATTLE MOUNTAIN, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) kicked off the second leg of her multi-day tour across Nevada’s rural communities with stops in Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, and the Nevada Gold Mines Cortez complex. In Winnemucca, Senator Rosen toured CSS Farms, a farm that grows potatoes for chips and potato snacks, and visited the local Boys & Girls Club to learn more about their plans to build a new Early Head Start and Head Start child care facility.
In Battle Mountain, Senator Rosen participated in a roundtable with local tourism stakeholders to hear about how the industry is recovering from the pandemic and what the federal government can do to help rural tourism. She also toured Nevada Gold Mines Cortez complex to learn more about the local jobs being created.
“As I work in the Senate to lower child care costs, create good-paying jobs, and restore our travel and tourism economy, it’s important for me to hear from every community across Nevada about what resources they need,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I was glad to have these conversations with Nevadans across Winnemucca and Battle Mountain, and enjoyed learning more about the work being done at the Nevada Gold Mines Cortez complex.”
Senator Rosen has been a leader in the fight to secure funding and resources for rural communities. Just last week, Senators Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto announced that the Department of Interior awarded this year more than $29.1 million under the Payments in Lieu of Taxes program to rural counties in Nevada. Last summer, as Chair of the Senate subcommittee overseeing tourism, Senator Rosen convened a hearing on the outdoor tourism and recreation economy, highlighting rural tourism attractions and activities throughout Nevada, including Battle Mountain’s Human Powered Vehicle Speed Challenge.
