During AANHPI Heritage Month, Senator Rosen Also Helped Introduce Legislation To Promote Asian Pacific American History In Public School Civics Programs

WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined her Senate colleagues in introducing a resolution to recognize May 2023 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month to celebrate the contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders to the United States. As part of AANHPI heritage month, Senator Rosen also helped introduce the Teaching Asian Pacific American (APA) History Act to promote the teaching of AANHPI history for high school students enrolled in American history and civics programs.

“As one of the states with the fastest growing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander populations, Nevada’s history and heritage have greatly benefited from the countless contributions and accomplishments of our AANHPI community,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m proud to join my colleagues in introducing legislation to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month and promote the teaching of AANHPI history in our classrooms.”

As an associate member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Senator Rosen has worked to support the AANHPI community. Senator Rosen joined her CAPAC colleagues in a letter urging President Biden to confirm Julie Su as the next U.S. Secretary of Labor, who would become the first AANHPI cabinet secretary in the Biden Administration. Earlier this year, Rosen applauded the White House for developing the first-ever national strategy to advance equity, justice, and opportunity for AANHPI communities. In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Rosen also helped introduce and pass into law the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act to address the rise of hate crimes and violence targeted at members of the AANHPI community.
