WASHINGTON DC – Last week, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) traveled throughout Northern Nevada to highlight her work to support Nevada’s veterans, address the housing and medical professional shortages in rural communities, and combat climate change and promote clean energy.
On Wednesday, Senator Rosen attended the opening of nZero, a Reno-based business that helps companies and local governments reduce their carbon footprint, which allows them to take advantage of clean energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act Senator Rosen helped pass. On Thursday, Senator Rosen visited Western Nevada College’s Fallon nursing campus to highlight funding she secured to upgrade training facilities and increase the number of nurses serving rural Nevada. That same day, she also met with local leaders in Churchill County to discuss her efforts to help expand access to affordable housing. On Friday, Senator Rosen hosted a roundtable with women veterans and local advocates to discuss recent efforts to ensure veterans have access to care and benefits. During her visit, Rosen also met with servicemembers and mechanics at Naval Air Station Fallon, Reno firefighters, and Fallon Mayor Tedford.

The roundtable discussed challenges women face when transitioning to civilian life and their hesitation in reaching out to veterans services… Senator Rosen is pushing multiple veterans benefits legislation, which include the Jax Act, the GUARD VA Benefits Act, and the newly enacted PACT Act.”

The event commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which allowed women to serve in the U.S. military. The discussions focused on efforts to support women veterans and make sure they’re not victims of scams.”
Rosen: “We don’t want to have anyone preying on our veterans, putting those scams, any unaccredited groups – that’s not right, veterans deserve more. I have a bill to help take care of that.

Anchor: “Senator Jacky Rosen visited Fallon today touting investments in Western Nevada College and affordable housing… The senator started her trip by visiting Western Nevada College’s campus there in Fallon… She says the goal of the trip is to discuss the medical provider shortage in Nevada, especially in rural areas.”
Rosen: “It’s important that we grow our own healthcare workforce and this is where it happens. So, people who live in Fallon, who live around the community, they can come here, they can train here, they can stay and work here where their friends and family are. So, this $2.3 million dollar grant is going to help them secure that permanent space to create these nursing students, and we hope even more going forward in the future.”
Reporter: “Afterwards, the senator visited a field nearby where she has secured a $4 million dollar grant to turn this field into affordable housing.”
Rosen: “We need affordable housing here in Fallon. We need it for growth of the base, we need it for growth of the city, and just for our young folks here in Fallon to be able to find a place to live. So, this road is the first step to building this affordable housing.”
Reporter: “Senator Rosen says that not only is this important for local residents, but this plan will also provide housing for men and women training at the navy base in Fallon. She tells us that this is the first step to more affordable housing developments planned in the future.”
KRNV Reno: Carbon emissions tracking company nZero opens downtown Reno headquarters, continues growth
Reporter: “A Reno-based environmental software company officially opened their downtown headquarters at the old post office building today. nZero builds software that allows companies and governments to track their carbon emissions in real time, and finds ways to reduce those emissions…And Senator Jacky Rosen was at the ribbon cutting event for this new office space because nZero [can help businesses] benefit from tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act.”
Rosen: “They’re going to come down in different ways. You apply for those tax credits. This will be specifically for investing in reducing carbon. We have lots of other things going on from the Inflation Reduction Act, specifically in the water and drought area.”
