ELY, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) was joined by leaders from the Ely Shoshone Tribe, the Duckwater Shoshone Tribe, and the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation in a visit to the proposed Bahsahwahbee National Monument site. During her visit, Senator Rosen also met with several key conservation, energy, tourism, and local government leaders to hear directly from a wide range of stakeholders about this proposed monument. Earlier this year, Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto sent a letter to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland urging the Department of the Interior to support the national monument designation at Bahsahwahbee.
“Bahsahwahbee is sacred land with tremendous cultural and historical significance for Tribes in Nevada,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I had the honor to see firsthand the sacred site of the proposed National Monument and listen to our Tribal leaders, as well as a wide range of supporters of this proposal. I will continue working to permanently protect this sacred land for generations to come.”
Senator Rosen has been a strong supporter of public lands and Tribes in Nevada. Earlier this year she celebrated the designation of the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument after working with the Nevada congressional delegation to push for the designation. Senator Rosen also helped secure $417 million in funding for 47 projects to help protect Nevada’s public lands and rehabilitate wildlife habitat. She will continue engaging Tribal governments, local communities, and other stakeholders to ensure all voices are heard throughout the process to designate a national monument at Bahsahwahbee in Eastern Nevada.
