Rosen Recently Introduced Bipartisan Bill To Increase Nursing Faculty And Pathways To Become A Registered Nurse At Colleges Across Nevada
RENO, NV – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) toured Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno to discuss her work to tackle the nursing shortage in Nevada. Last year, she secured $2 million to support the growth of the nursing program as it expands to meet the demand for nurses. She also recently introduced the bipartisan Train More Nurses Act to help address the nursing shortage. On this tour, Senator Rosen met with Truckee Meadows Community College nursing faculty and administrators, including Dr. Jody Covert, Director of Nursing and Nursing Professor.
Senator Rosen has been leading efforts to address Nevada’s health care professional shortage and improve medical care access in the state. She has introduced a package of bipartisan bills to tackle this health care professional shortage in Nevada and across the nation. Senator Rosen’s Maximizing Outcomes Through Better Investments in Lifesaving Equipment for (MOBILE) Health Care Act was signed into law in December, and allows community health centers to use federal funds to establish new, mobile health care units to increase access to health care services in rural and underserved communities.

Senator Rosen: “Nevada has such a nursing shortage. We are one of the top states that don’t have enough nurses. It’s critical that we do this.”
Reporter: “The Train More Nurses Act will find more ways to increase faculty at nursing schools, particularly in underserved areas. It will also increase pathways for licensed practical nurses to become registered nurses. Faculty at TMCC say one of the reasons Nevada is facing a nursing crisis is because recruiting nursing faculty is becoming increasingly difficult. Even with the cost of living going up, nursing faculty say wages are still not comparable to the private sector.”
