WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that she has joined the bipartisan Fentanyl Safe Testing and Overdose Prevention Act to help prevent deaths from fentanyl poisoning by increasing access to fentanyl test strips. This bipartisan bill would amend federal law to make clear that testing strips for fentanyl and xylazine are not prohibited by the Controlled Substances Act, ensuring that states cannot ban them.
“Fentanyl is seriously harming communities across Nevada, and we need to take commonsense steps to save lives and keep our families safe,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “Our bipartisan legislation would make access to testing strips more accessible, which is a proven way to help prevent fentanyl poisoning and overdoses. I will continue fighting to keep dangerous drugs out of our communities.”
Senator Rosen continues fighting to end fentanyl trafficking and drug smuggling. This week, she asked Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about additional resources needed to prevent fentanyl from being smuggled into the United States across our southwestern border. Earlier this year, Senator Rosen announced that two of the bipartisan bills she co-sponsored to crack down on illegal fentanyl trafficking into the country passed the Senate. In 2020, her bipartisan Department of Homeland Security Opioid Detection Resilience Act was signed into law, which would strengthen law enforcement resources by ensuring that Homeland Security personnel have adequate chemical screening devices and technology to detect synthetic opioids.
