Rosen, Cortez Masto Announce $9 Million to Expand Solar Energy Capacity at Creech Air Force Base

WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced that Creech Air Force Base will receive $9 million to expand and improve its existing solar energy and battery storage capabilities. This project will help reduce carbon emissions and improve energy resilience at the Nevada military base. The funding comes from the Department of Energy and was funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto helped draft and pass into law.

“Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that I helped write and pass, funding is coming to Nevada to help improve energy resiliency, secure our energy independence, and reduce carbon emissions,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m proud to announce that $9 million will be coming to Creech Air Force Base which will help bolster renewable energy capacity, while saving taxpayer dollars.”

“I’m glad to see the funding I fought for in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law coming to Nevada to help Creech Air Force Base reduce emissions and make the base’s critical infrastructure more resilient,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I will continue working to ensure our clean energy future benefits every corner of our state, including our service members and military installations.”

Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto have worked to support Nevada’s clean-energy economy. For the last two years, Senator Rosen has sent a letter urging Senate appropriators to fund the Department of Energy’s Geothermal Technologies Office to support a reliable, clean energy source for the United States that would allow the country to secure its energy grid. Senator Rosen also led the fight to protect American solar energy, and both Senators have worked to support solar jobs and boost domestic solar manufacturing. Cortez Masto also secured vital extensions of the investment tax credit and the residential renewable energy tax credit in 2020 to boost solar energy and expanded these tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act.
