WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the bipartisan Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad International Terrorism Support Prevention Act of 2024 to sanction foreign entities and governments supporting Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, or their affiliates. Foreign financial and material support are fueling Hamas’ terrorism against Israel, including the deadly October 7 terrorist attack that killed 1,200 people.
“On October 7, Iranian-backed Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists brutally murdered, raped, and kidnapped innocent civilians. Their terror attacks cannot go unanswered,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “The U.S. must break up the foreign networks that finance these terrorist groups and ensure such an attack never happens again. Our bipartisan bill would hold accountable anyone who provides financial or material support to these terrorist organizations that seek to inflict harm on Israelis and Americans.”
“The barbaric terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7th by Hamas savages, reaffirms the importance of sanctioning the group’s enablers and the governments who provide material support to these terrorists,” said Senator Rubio. “As a nation, which stands unequivocally in support of Israel, we must ensure we’re focused on eliminating any source of international material support to Hamas or radical groups alike.”
Following Hamas’s terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, Senator Rosen has been leading the efforts to free the hostages being held by Hamas. Earlier this year, the Senate unanimously passed Senator Rosen’s bipartisan resolution condemning Hamas’s terrorist attack, demanding that it immediately release all hostages and calling on the United States to lead a global effort to free all hostages. Senator Rosen introduced this resolution following a bipartisan visit to Israel, where she met with families of those taken hostage by Hamas. Rosen has also led a bipartisan push calling on the United Nations to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization and impose sanctions. Senator Rosen also successfully led a bipartisan group of senators in urging the Department of Defense to transfer additional Iron Dome batteries and other unused military assets to Israel.
