WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that two bipartisan bills she helped introduce to hold Iran’s regime accountable advanced out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The bipartisan Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad International Terrorism Support Prevention Act would sanction foreign entities and governments, like Iran, that support Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, or their affiliates. The bipartisan Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum (SHIP) Act would sanction foreign ports and refineries that process Iranian oil in violation of U.S. sanctions as a way to stop Iran from using oil sales to fund its malign actions against the United States, Israel, and Arab partners in the Middle East.
Regarding the Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad International Terrorism Support Prevention Act of 2024, Senator Rosen said:
“On October 7, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists brutally attacked, murdered, and kidnapped over 1,200 Israelis with the financial backing of Iran and other foreign networks. To ensure an attack like this never happens again, it’s critical that we cut off these terrorist groups’ sources of funding. That’s why I’m glad that our bipartisan bill to hold accountable anyone who provides material or financial support to these terrorist groups advanced out of committee.”
Regarding the Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum (SHIP) Act, Senator Rosen said:
“As we saw in its attack on Israel over the weekend, the Iranian regime continues to threaten American interests and allies around the world. They must be held accountable and prevented from destabilizing the region. Iran relies on funding from illicit oil sales to finance its aggression, which is why I’m glad to see our bipartisan bill to crack down on those sales advance out of committee.”
Senator Rosen has consistently worked across the aisle to stand up to protect U.S. national security and counter Iran’s actions. She called on the Biden Administration to refreeze $6 billion in Iranian assets held in Qatar following Hamas’ October 7th terrorist attack on Israel. Senator Rosen also stood up to her own party and voted in favor of several Republican amendments to the Authorization For Use of Military Force that would combat Iranian aggression and support Israel. She helped introduce the bipartisan Solidify Iran Sanctions Act to make permanent the Iran Sanctions of 1996 that would allow the President to impose sanctions on Iran’s energy sectors. The House of Representatives passed identical companion legislation to that bill last night in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote.
