WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped pass bipartisan legislation in the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to provide federal law enforcement with improved ballistic body armor. Recent ballistic testing by the FBI identified that body armor typically used by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers is designed to fit in a way that can allow bullets to deflect off the chest of the armor and hit the throat area, leaving many female officers and some male officers, vulnerable. The bipartisan Better Ballistic Body Armor Act would better protect law enforcement by requiring all agencies under DHS to provide them with the next generation of body armor.
“Federal law enforcement officers in Nevada and across our nation put their lives on the line to protect our communities, and we owe it to them to keep them safe,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I helped advance this bipartisan bill to provide federal officers with improved body armor and better protect them while in the line of duty. I’ll keep working at the federal level to provide our law enforcement with equipment they need to do their jobs effectively and safely.”
Senator Rosen has been a strong supporter of ensuring Nevada’s law enforcement community has the resources needed to keep communities safe. Last year, Senator Rosen secured millions for law enforcement and first responders in the 2023 funding bill, ensuring these critical funds were delivered to communities across the state. Senator Rosen also helped pass the bipartisan Recruit and Retain Act, which is on its way to become law. She introduced bipartisan legislation to help determine best practices for identifying and treating post-traumatic stress and combating suicide among first responders.
