Rosen, Cortez Masto Help Secure National Park Service Funding for Tonopah, Elko

WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) are announcing federal funding for two improvement projects for recreation areas in rural Nevada. The funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) will help support rural Nevada’s outdoors and local tourism by delivering nearly $300,000 for facility and accessibility improvements at Harvey Sports Park in Tonopah, and more than $600,000 for campsite improvements at the Wild Horse State Recreation Area in Elko. Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto championed permanent funding for LWCF in the bipartisan Great American Outdoors Act they helped pass into law.

“In Nevada, we’re lucky to be surrounded by beautiful outdoors and public parks,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to have helped secure funding to improve recreation facilities in Tonopah and Elko. I will keep fighting to deliver federal funding for communities across rural Nevada.”

“I’m proud to have secured these federal funds to help support outdoor recreation in Elko and Tonopah,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Nevada’s public spaces are beautiful, and I will keep working to make sure everyone can continue enjoying our great outdoors.”

los LWCF, which is administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, is a bipartisan program that has supported conservation and recreation projects in Nevada and across the country for over 50 years. At no cost to taxpayers, LWCF supports increased public access to and protection for federal public lands and waters—including national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and recreation areas. It also provides matching grants to Tribal, state, and local governments to support the acquisition and development of land for public parks and other outdoor recreation sites.
